
The State Government is planning to provide free education to girls from standard 1 to post graduate degrees, announced Minister for Higher Education Basavaraja Rayareddy. The free laptop being distributed to students up to degree course will be extended to post graduate students also, reported Kannada Prabha.
Speaking after inaugurating the new building of Bengaluru University Commerce Department at Central College Campus, he said a committee has been set up to inquire into the possibility of providing free education to all girl students in the State. After the committee submits a report to the government indicating the financial implications to the government action will be taken in this regard, he said.
In the current academic year all students of the first year degree courses will be distributed free laptops at an expense of Rs 300 crores. Tenders have already been invited in this regard. Before November 15 laptops will be distributed. Plans are underway to distribute laptops to all postgraduate students also from 2018-19.
