2 men attacked outside Cantonment railway station by unidentified assailants

Synopsis

The two men were mere spectators to the tension that brewed up at the Cantonment Railway Station pertaining to child trafficking. They were having a cup of tea when they were attacked. The attackers remain unidentified, but do not belong to any right-wing group.

In a tragic incident, two men were brutally attacked by a mob of 10-12 men after tension brewed up at the Cantonment station on the suspicion of child trafficking. 200 students from madrasa were travelling in a train from Guwahati to Bengaluru and were stopped on suspicion of being trafficked. The incident happened on Tuesday and the two victims were mere spectators.

Residents of the Tannery Road, Govind Singh and Nagaraj Kutty were attacked when they were having a cup of tea outside the station after witnessing the tension. According to the complainant Sunil Kumar, who is a friend of the two injured, all three had gone to the station on hearing that trouble was brewing up. Speaking to the Times of India, he said, "We saw there was confusion regarding the identities of the students who had arrived in Guwahati Express. Arguments and counter arguments were taking place. We were there till the evening and stepped out to have a cup of tea."

When the trio were walking toward Ambedkar Bhavan, the trio were attacked by a gang of 10-12 men. Sunil confirmed that they did not belong to any organisation or any right-wing outfit. He added, "We were just spectators. We have no idea who attacked us and for what reason."

Meanwhile, police said, "Unless we catch the culprits, it is difficult to ascertain the reason behind the attack. The complainant hasn't said in the FIR that the attack took place due to the incident at Cantonment railway station."  The injured have been admitted to the Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital and their condition is said to be stable.
