Synopsis

Contract workers to get Rs 25,000, a hike of Rs 8000 from their earlier Rs 17,000. A special regulation was formulated to regularise the 11,000 Pourakarmikas. 5413 vacant posts in BBMP will be filled by direct appointment. The Cabinet approved the regularisation after much debate.

The State Government has announced that around 11,000 contract Pourakarmikas will be regularised. Special regulations have been drawn for this purpose and wage hike of up to Rs 8000 has been provided. The order will be implemented shortly and the appointment process will be carried out in a phased manner. The issue was debated at the legislative assembly at length and special regulations are formulated for this purpose, reported Kannada Prabha.

Currently there is provision for appointing 13,039 outsourced contract workers in the State. However, there are already thousands of contract workers engaged. The Supreme Court order prohibits direct appointment of these workers. Hence a special regulation was drawn to appoint the already working personnel and it was placed before the Cabinet and approval obtained.

Currently 5413 posts are vacant at BBMP which will be filled up by direct appointment. Similarly, the other 5476 vacant posts in local organisations will also be filled up by direct appointment. The outsourced Pourakarmikas who will be directly recruited will get a wage hike of Rs 8000. That is their present wage of Rs17,000 will jump to Rs 25,000.
