
In a major road accident reported from Sira taluk in Tumakuru district, over 35 passengers were seriously injured after a KSRTC bus collided with a stationary lorry on National Highway 48. The accident, which occurred near Dwaralu Bridge, triggered panic at the scene as passengers were left trapped inside the severely damaged bus. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the bus was completely mangled, and rescue operations had to be carried out urgently by locals and police.
According to reports, the KSRTC bus was travelling at high speed from Sidlaghatta in Chikkaballapur district to Chitradurga when it reportedly lost control and rammed into a lorry that had been parked on the roadside after its tyre burst.
The collision impact was extremely severe, leaving the front portion of the bus completely wrecked. Eyewitnesses reported hearing screams for help as passengers were trapped inside the damaged vehicle.
Local residents and police personnel rushed to the spot immediately after the accident. They rescued the injured passengers and shifted them to Sira Government Hospital. Several victims, who were in critical condition, were later referred to Tumakuru District Hospital for further treatment.
The accident caused a major traffic jam on National Highway 48, bringing vehicular movement to a standstill for nearly two hours. Long queues of vehicles were reported for several kilometres as authorities struggled to clear the wreckage.
Tavarekere police, along with a crane service, cleared the damaged vehicles from the road to restore traffic flow. Officials have inspected the accident site and registered a case at the Tavarekere police station.
An investigation is underway to determine whether overspeeding or driver negligence led to the tragic accident.
