Theft incidents in Bengaluru appear to be becoming increasingly unusual, with the latest case involving a bizarre coconut theft that has drawn widespread attention. The incident took place in the Nagapura area under the Mahalakshmi Layout police station limits, where a woman was caught on CCTV repeatedly stealing coconuts from a local shop during the night. The audacious nature of the theft has left shopkeepers and residents shocked, prompting police action and raising concern among local traders.
According to reports, a woman was seen on CCTV entering a shop named “Sri Lakshmidevi Rice Corner” after closing hours and calmly picking up coconuts kept outside the premises. The footage clearly shows her carrying out the act during the night without any apparent fear of being caught.
This was not an isolated incident. The shop owner reportedly stated that similar thefts had taken place earlier at the same location. Anticipating another attempt, he had been monitoring the area for nearly a week but was unable to catch the suspect.
However, around 3 am recently, the woman allegedly returned to the shop and stole around 15 coconuts before leaving the spot.
Following the repeated thefts, the Mahalakshmi Layout police have initiated an investigation. Officials are currently analysing CCTV footage to identify and trace the woman involved in the incident.
The unusual theft has created concern among local traders, who say such incidents in the heart of the city are alarming. Residents have urged authorities to increase night patrols in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future.
