Woman arrested for secretly selling prime central Mumbai property worth Rs 100 crore; check details

A 58-year-old woman was arrested in a Mysore hotel by the Mumbai police for her alleged involvement in selling a valuable property worth Rs 100 crore to a developer without informing her cousin siblings, who also held a stake in the property. The property, situated in central Mumbai, encompassed over 2 acres and contained three tenanted buildings. Abida Jaffar Ismail, the accused, was presented before the 47th Metropolitan court and subsequently placed in judicial custody.

The complainant in the case is Abida's cousin, Ayaz Kapadia, who shared ownership of the property with her. The joint property, registered in the names of Ayaz's late father, Jaffar Kapadia, and his uncle, Latif Kapadia, holds three separate CTS numbers. It is located in the bustling Lower Parel area, now transformed into a thriving business hub.

The tenanted buildings on the property, known as Zia Masoom Chawl, Bhaiya Chapra Chawl, and Irani Chawl, were a source of regular rental income for Latif's family, managed primarily by Latif's eldest son, Aziz.

However, Ayaz Kapadia discovered that Latif's family had allegedly entered into a deal with Big Tree Developers without his knowledge. They claimed full ownership of the properties by submitting false documents to the joint sub-registrar's office at the old customs office. This deceitful transaction led to Ayaz's legal complaint, naming Rahim Latif Kapadia, Amina Usman, Abida Jaffar Ismail, and Malik Latif Kapadia as defendants.

Police investigations revealed that Amina, holding power of attorney for her brothers, had signed agreements with the developer, receiving Rs 3.5 crore and the promise of two flats in the new buildings. While the exact deal amount remains unclear, the estimated value of the three properties totals approximately Rs 50 crore. This is not the first time the accused have attempted to sell the same property to a developer, as a previous deal failed to materialize and now remains pending in the high court due to ongoing litigation.
