Who funded the vandalisers at Visva-Bharati University? ED to probe source of money

Synopsis

The Enforcement Directorate swung into action to probe the source of money that “funded the huge mobilisation of resources” before the Visva-Bharati incident. Letters to the police were issued asking for related documents.

“Is it possible to gather so many people just by using social media as a tool? How did those who carried out the vandalism raise money to buy heavy equipment like the Payloader? “

These questions were raised by the ED (Enforcement Directorate) regarding the Visva-Bharati incident.

The case is being investigated by the ED (Enforcement Directorate). A letter has been sent to the DG (Directorate General) of State Police and Superintendent of Police of Birbhum asking for related documents.

Visva-Bharati authorities found themselves in trouble after taking the decision to construct a boundary wall at the Poush Mela ground. The outrage was so violent that thousands of people vandalised the campus in Bolpur on Monday (August 17).  A Trinamool MLA and the councillor were also involved in the incident. Police have arrested eight people after receiving a written complaint. According to sources, police were not present when the vandalism occurred in the fairground.

People were highly tensed in the area where the protest over the decision to construct a boundary wall at the Poush Mela ground took place. Locals have set up a stage for the protest to save the fairground. ED officials estimate that it was not only through social media that huge crowds gathered, adding that was planned to occur on the day of the incident.

It is also believed that people who have caused the vandalism were sent by a person or organisation. Payloaders were used to break the gate and wall of Visva-Bharati. Earlier, two groups clashed at Garden Reach in Kolkata. Both groups used guns and heavy weapons. The ED has started an investigation to find out the source of money with which the miscreants buy such expensive weapons.
