
Violence erupted at Sonarpur railway station premises when members of the public got down from railway workers' special train. Panic spread in the railway station due to the protest of railway employees. Members of the public vandalised the station area. It is alleged that stones were thrown at the RPF. The public also blocked the railway workers’ special train.
According to reports, the railway employees protested at Sonarpur Railway Station on October 8 morning when they saw that non-employees getting down from the railway workers' special train.
It is alleged that when the RPF went to handle the situation, they were beaten up by the general public. Several RPF personnel were severely injured in the clash. The general public protested by blocking the special train. The whole situation became violent.
Eventually, the RPF removed protestors who were standing in front of the train and the railway workers' special train left the station.

Local train services have been suspended for more than six months due to the COVID-19 situation. However, a few trains were running for railway employees. It is alleged that people not employed with the railways have been boarding special trains which made railway employees furious.
