WB govt, Railways to meet again over restoring local trains

Synopsis

The West Bengal government wants Eastern Railway and South Eastern Railway to start local train services in the state as soon as possible in compliance with the hygiene rules. Therefore, the state government will hold a meeting today (November 4) with the two rail divisions to discuss a number of issues regarding the resumption of local train services.

State home secretary H K Dwivedi has convened a meeting with key officials of the two rail divisions on Wednesday (November 4) to discuss the issue and chalk out plans ahead of the proposed announcement on Thursday (November 5).

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked for fast resumption of rail services in the state. On Monday (November 2), the railway officials held a meeting with the state government in Nabanna (State Secretariat). In the meeting, it was decided that the team will meet again on November 5. But the state government decided to hold a meeting on November 4. The meeting will be attended by Divisional General Managers of various divisions and COMs of Eastern and South Eastern Railways. 

The meeting is expected to discuss a number of issues such as how many trains will run in a branch, how the train will run, how passengers will be picked up on the train, how social distancing will be maintained etc. The Eastern Railway and the South-Eastern Railway have already made a lot of preparations by discussing all these issues. They will inform the state government about all the preparations. The final decision on this matter will be made today.

However, the state government wants to start the train service as soon as possible in compliance with the hygiene rules.
