A newly constructed concrete road in Karnataka's Sullia town has come under sharp criticism after electric poles were left standing almost in the middle of the carriageway instead of being shifted before the road was built. The road connects the Government General Hospital with the Government Pre-University College and is used daily by students, patients and local residents. Apart from one prominent pole, two more poles can also be seen standing dangerously close to the middle of the road.

According to reports, contractors carried out the road work by laying concrete around the existing electricity poles instead of relocating them first.
The unusual construction has alarmed local residents, who say the poles create a serious risk for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. They fear accidents could become more common, especially at night or during the monsoon when visibility is poor and the road becomes slippery.
Photographs of the road have gone viral on social media, with many people questioning how such a project was approved without removing the obstacles.
Following public complaints, local MLA Bhagirathi Murulya visited the site to inspect the road and sought an explanation from officials over why the construction was completed without relocating the electricity poles, reported Daiji World.
Calling the situation unsafe, the MLA instructed officials to shift the poles at the earliest to protect commuters and allow smooth movement of traffic.

The issue was also discussed during a meeting of the District Guarantee Implementation Committee. Committee president Bharat Mundodi described the matter as a serious lapse and asked officials to inspect the site immediately.
He also directed Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Rajanna to ensure that the poles are relocated and all necessary corrective measures are taken without delay.
Residents now hope the authorities will act quickly to remove the dangerous obstacles and make the road safe for everyone using this important route.
