Anyone who has visited Delhi’s famous street markets knows that shopping there is both exciting and tiring at the same time. From squeezing through crowds in Lajpat Nagar and Sarojini Nagar to carrying heavy shopping bags while trying to eat street food, the experience can quickly become stressful. Add Delhi's heat, traffic, long walks and endless bargaining and a simple shopping trip can turn into an exhausting task.
Now, a Delhi-based startup called CarryMen is trying to make shopping easier by offering trained assistants who carry bags and help shoppers move comfortably through crowded markets. The startup’s simple idea, ‘You shop, we carry’, has started gaining attention online and has already sparked strong reactions on social media.
The founders of CarryMen said the idea came from their own experiences growing up in Delhi and visiting crowded local markets with family members.
According to the startup, as quoted by India Today report, people enjoy shopping but often dislike the physical stress that comes with it. Carrying heavy bags, standing in queues, searching for seating areas and walking long distances in crowded lanes can become tiring very quickly.
To solve this problem, the company introduced shopping assistants who stay with customers during their market visits.
For Rs 149 per hour and Rs 79 for 30 minutes, shoppers can hire a trained helper for two, three or four-hour packages. The assistant carries shopping bags, helps customers move through crowds, waits in food queues, guides them towards parking areas or metro stations and provides basic support during the shopping trip.
The company currently operates mainly in Lajpat Nagar and plans to expand to Chandni Chowk soon.
The startup says many customers using the service are elderly women shopping for clothes, curtains, bedsheets and household items.
According to the founders, older customers often need simple support rather than luxury. Some only want someone to carry bags, help them order food or find a comfortable place to sit during long shopping visits. The startup assures:
To make things easier, the company also introduced portable foldable chairs. If customers feel tired, assistants can set up the chair so they can rest in the middle of the market.
The service also includes umbrellas for heat and rain, mobile charging support, power banks and hydration assistance.
CarryMen has also seen bookings from pregnant women and parents with toddlers. The company even offers stroller rentals at an extra hourly charge to help families move more comfortably through busy shopping areas.
The weight limit for one assistant is currently 12 kg. Customers carrying heavier items can hire additional helpers.
The company officially launched in April and says it has already completed more than 50 bookings within its first month.
Interestingly, most of its popularity has come through word-of-mouth and organic social media discussions rather than influencer marketing campaigns.
The concept quickly went viral online because many people found the idea funny, relatable and surprisingly practical at the same time.
The startup received mixed reactions online after videos and posts about the service began circulating on Instagram and other platforms.
Many users praised the idea and called it a useful solution for crowded Indian markets.
Some users commented, “Very nice concept,” while others wrote, “Thank God someone finally thought of this,” and “Need this in Chandni Chowk.”
Several people joked about emotional support instead of physical support. One user asked, “Will someone carry my emotional baggage too?”
Others questioned whether customers could trust strangers with expensive shopping bags, babies or personal belongings in crowded places.
One comment read, “What if someone runs away with wedding lehengas or expensive sarees?”
Another user wrote, “Isn’t it risky? What if the person disappears with bags, wife and kids?”
Some social media users also linked the startup to rising unemployment in India, saying people are now ready to take any kind of work for income.
At the same time, many users compared the service to traditional market workers, railway coolies and helpers already seen in vegetable markets and wholesale mandis.
While startups like CarryMen may reduce the physical stress of shopping, many people online also pointed out that shopping memories are often connected to loved ones who accompany us.
For years, fathers, brothers, husbands and friends have quietly carried bags, waited outside trial rooms and walked through crowded markets simply to spend time together.
And if you think your loved ones deserve a break from carrying endless shopping bags, CarryMen might be worth trying. The CarryMen may make shopping lighter and more comfortable!
