The central government has approved the introduction of a new Vande Bharat Express service connecting Bengaluru and Margao in Goa, marking a major step forward in strengthening rail connectivity between Karnataka and the coastal state. The announcement follows a proposal submitted to the Centre ahead of the Union Budget and is being seen as a key development in expanding modern rail infrastructure across high-demand routes.

The launch date and detailed timetable of the service are expected to be announced soon by the Railways.

Faster Travel Across Western Ghats And Coastal Belt

The upcoming semi high-speed train is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru and Goa’s commercial hub Margao. The route, which passes through the challenging terrain of the Western Ghats and the Konkan coast, has long been considered difficult for high-speed rail operations. However, officials have confirmed that technical challenges have now been addressed.

Once operational, the service is expected to offer passengers a faster, smoother and more comfortable travel experience, further strengthening connectivity between Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Goa.

Government Push For Expanded Vande Bharat Network

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, during a recent visit to Bengaluru, indicated that the Bengaluru–Mangaluru–Madgaon corridor will be part of the expanding Vande Bharat network. He also noted that a superfast train and a Vande Bharat sleeper service between Bengaluru and Mumbai are planned in the near future.

The new service is expected to be operated by the South Western Railway zone and will further integrate major transport hubs along the western coastal belt.

He added, “This is a step towards enhancing infrastructure and driving economic growth in the region.”
