Two-month-old coronavirus positive baby dies in Hyderabad

Synopsis

After the two-month-old baby, who was tested positive for coronavirus, died, 50 medical staff of the hospital and the family members of the baby were asked to self isolate themselves  

Hyderabad: The two-month-old baby of a woman named Kavitha from Narayanpet district, Hyderabad, passed away at Gandhi Hospital two days after being tested positive. According to reports, this is the first infant to die of coronavirus in the state.

The baby had been brought to Niloufer Hospital after being referred by a government hospital in Mehboobnagar and tested positive on Friday. Soon the infant was moved to Gandhi Hospital on Saturday. 

On February 23, Kavitha, a pregnant woman from Narayanpet mandal had her delivery at Narayanpet District Hospital. The delivery was normal and the patient went back to her village along with her baby.

On April 11, the baby started developing fever and other physical discomfort.  Soon the parents took the baby to a private medical practitioner in the village, who referred the baby to Mehboobnagar Government Hospital. On Sunday night the baby passed away.

50 medical staffunder quarantine: 

Police have contacted the primary contacts of the baby and isolated them, including the family. 50 medical staff of the hospital have also been asked to go into quarantine. The superintendent of the hospital has issued a circular asking the medical staff, who were on duty on April 16 and 17, to quarantine themselves.
