Aluva: A TTI's quick action saved a six-year-old boy from jumping off a moving train at Aluva railway station. The hero of the hour is Nikhil Mithra, a TTI from Ulliyeri in Kozhikode, whose presence of mind prevented a huge tragedy for one family.
The whole drama unfolded on Saturday around 3:40 PM. The incident happened on the Mangaluru-Thiruvananthapuram Eranad Express. Nikhil was on duty in the D5 coach.
Here's what happened. Sunilkumar from Alappuzha, his wife, and their two sons, aged 10 and 6, were trying to board the train. They managed to get the two kids on first. But just then, the train started moving, leaving the parents stuck on the platform.

Seeing their parents left behind, the 10-year-old panicked and jumped off the moving train onto the platform. Luckily, the train was still slow, so he wasn't hurt. But seeing his big brother jump, the little six-year-old also ran to the door to do the same.
People on the platform started shouting, and that's when TTI Nikhil Mithra rushed to the spot. In a split second, just as the boy was about to jump, Nikhil grabbed him and pulled him to safety. He immediately pulled the emergency chain to stop the train and handed the child over to the Aluva RPF. The station authorities were also informed.
After all the procedures were completed, the boy was safely returned to his parents. The train then continued its journey.
