Telangana CM on CAA, NRC: Should I die as I don't have my birth certificate?

Synopsis

Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao vented his ire on the Central government on its decision to implement CAA and NRC. He questioned the Union government by asking, "Should I die as I do not have my birth certificate.”

Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao, who is known to throw sharp criticisms against his rivals, on Saturday, admitted that he does not have any birth certificate and asked the Central government, “Should I die?”

66-year-old Rao was born in Chintamadaka, close to Siddipet, in erstwhile Medak district in 1954.

The CM made this remark following the Thanksgiving function of Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan during the state Assembly session.

Rao was born in the house in his village and there were no hospitals and clinics at that time. He said, "When I have not got my birth certificate, how can I question Dalits, SC/STs and other poor persons, who do not have a birth certificate. This Act is disrespecting the fundamental principle of the Indian Constitution which guarantees equality of religion, caste or creed."

The CM expressed his concerns over provision seeking a birth certificate from people with respect to Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).
