'Grand success, world record created': Team of 8 specially-abled people scale Siachen glacier up to 15,632 ft

Synopsis

On July 4, the "Operation Blue Freedom" mission began at the Siachen base camp. It was carried out by 'Team CLAW,' a group of armed services veterans dedicated to empowering persons with impairments.

A group of eight persons with special needs set a world record on Sunday by reaching Kumar Post at 15,632 feet on the Siachen glacier. This is the first time such a big group of disabled persons has scaled the world's highest battlefield. On July 4, the "Operation Blue Freedom" mission began at the Siachen base camp. It was carried out by 'Team CLAW,' a group of armed services veterans dedicated to empowering persons with impairments.

Conquer Land Water Air (CLAW) has received in-principle clearance from the Indian Army for a journey to the Siachen glacier. Northern Command of the Indian Army stated in a tweet that the Army's special forces veterans from CLAW Global (Elite Team of Former Special Forces troops) and the team's tenacity made Operation Blue Freedom a "great success."

In an official tweet, the Indian Army's Northern Command said: "A World record was created today when 8 specially-abled people reached Kumar Post at 15632 feet on Siachen glacier. #IndianArmy special forces veterans from @CLAW_Global and the grit of the team made Operation Blue Freedom a grand success."

In April of this year, a group of veterans from India's special forces began a countrywide campaign to find the "biggest team of individuals with impairments" capable of ascending the Siachen glacier. The squad, directed by former nine para officer Major Vivek Jacob, trained 20 persons, eight of whom were chosen to attempt the "Land world record" at Siachen glacier, one of the world's most challenging terrains.
