Putting an end to the heated debate about whether or not the National Anthem should be played in cinema halls, the Supreme Court has directed that the anthem should be played in all theatres compulsorily.
The court also directed viewers to stand while the anthem was playing, and ordered that the national flag be displayed on the screen during the anthem.
The apex court asked the Centre to circulate an order to this effect in a week's time and circulate the same to all the states and Union territories.
On a more general note, the court also directed that no economic benefits are taken by a person playing the anthem, and neither should there be a 'dramatisation' of the national anthem. On a similar vein, the court added that the national anthem should not be printed or displayed on 'undesirable objects'.
