The sentence was found in the 12th standard CBSE physical education textbook. There is a cry to withdraw the textbook. The book ‘Health and Physical Education’ written by Dr V K Sharma was found to have the sentence which says 36-24-36 is the perfect shape of a woman’s body.
The textbook further gave examples of the world pageant shows and stated that only the girls who have 36-24-36 body shape are considered for the Miss World, Miss Universe beauty pageant contests.
The textbooks should be the tools to make people educated, give them knowledge and make the student have a questioning mind. Instead, these kinds of textbooks which teach the people to be biased and promote stereotyping of women is a serious matter of concern.
The textbook should be withdrawn from immediate effect.
