Synopsis

A seven-year-old girl died of burn injuries after a cracker exploded and her dress caught fire at her home in West Bengal's Malda district. Police have started a probe into the matter. 

A seven-year-old girl died of burn injuries that she sustained while bursting crackers at her home in West Bengal's Malda district.

Jatan and Tulsi’s elder daughter, Jayanti was playing with other children when suddenly a cracker went off and the fire spread to her dress.

On hearing her cries, elders rushed in and tried to tear her frock to save her, but a large portion of her body was burnt by then.

Her relatives immediately put out the fire and took her to Malda Medical College and Hospital, where the girl died while undergoing treatment.

Ratan, the girl’s uncle said, “We never thought such a mishap was in store for us on the night of Kali Puja.”

A police officer said: “We have started a probe and the post-mortem report will confirm the cause of death.”
