1,500 'anti-Hindu' rationalists on Sanathan Samstha’s hit list

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti activist Virendra Tawade and Sananthan Samstha’s Sarang Akolkar have been implicated in a plot to kill some 1,500 rationalists, police officers and others they accused of having 'anti-Hindu' leanings.

The list included rationalists Narendra Dhabolkar, Govind Pansare and some police officers.

This information is based on a series of e-mails between Tawade and Akolkar that the CBI has obtained. The CBI have also seized the server and data of the Sanathan Samstha to deepen their investigation.

The CBI is trying to nab Akolkar as the information available to them so far seems to implicate him in the killing of Dhabolkar.

Veerendra Tawade, who is already under arrest, has confirmed that Dhabolkar was killed as he played a key role in implementing the Anti-Superstition Bill in the Maharashtra Parliament.

Over 25 e-mail conversations between Tawade and Akolkar have used ‘chocolate’ as the code name to buy arms and ammunitions. Tawade was in charge of purchasing weapons in Belgaum. But at the last moment, he is said to have refused to go to Belgaum.

The CBI is likely to visit late rationalist M M Kalburgi’s house in Dharwad as there are similarities in the killing of Dhabolkar, Pansare and Kalburgi.

Meanwhile, the judicial custody of Tawade ends today and Maharashtra SIT officers, as well as the police, have sought Tawade’s custody. Both institutes have written to the Kolhapur District and Sessions Court in this regard, said police sources.
