The Congress party is today facing an existential crisis in most of the states with many veteran leaders deserting the party in the wake of missing effective leadership.

A few days ago, Capt Amrinder Singh had to resign from the post of chief ministership and subsequently from the party due to strife in the Punjab unit of the party, which was being headed by Navjot Singh Sidhu.

The Congress' G-23 or a group of 23 senior party leaders who had written a letter to interim party president Sonia Gandhi for restructuring the organisational affairs two years ago, have now again become active and have criticised the top leadership for their ineffective attitude in dealing with party matters.

Senior leader Kapil Sibal had vehemently questioned the high command over the lack of leadership in managing the party affairs and said that he did not know who was taking decisions within the party.

The infuriated Congress workers protested in front of Sibal's residence and as per the reports they damaged some of his property.

Most of the G-23 leaders condemned the act and asked the high command to take cognisance of the fact.

Raising the issue of disintegration of the Congress party, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said it was detrimental to the Indian democracy.

The party must take cognizance of the prevailing situation and what has happened outside Kapil Sibal's residence is an alien phenomenon, Hooda said.

He also added that the Congress has a legacy of respecting the difference of opinion.

Earlier, leaders like Anand Sharma, Manish Tewari, Shashi Tharoor, Vivek Tankha among others also criticised the Congress workers' actions.

The strife-ridden grand old party is also facing crises in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Meghalaya.

In Meghalaya, the leader of opposition Mukul Sangma is waiting to jump the boat anytime soon. As per the reports, he will cross over to the TMC with his supporters, including a few MLAs.
