'Uniformed police officials drunk, busy watching videos' at Punjab CM's son's wedding: Cop claims in letter

Synopsis

On Sunday, Channi's son Navjit Singh married in the Sacha Dham gurdwara in Mohali. Others in attendance were Harish Rawat, the AICC general secretary in-charge of Punjab affairs, and senior cabinet minister Manpreet Badal.

After making headlines for Navjot Singh Sidhu's absence, the recent wedding of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's son has made headlines again, this time for security flaws and inebriated police officers who were allegedly present at the site. Due to "poor checking" at the main gate, many armed workers entered the stadium undetected.

According to media reports, a senior police official claimed in a letter to the state's Director General of Police that numerous uniformed police officers were intoxicated during Channi's son's wedding. On October 8, a security flaw was discovered during the "women sangeet celebration" held at the Arista resort in Mohali.

The letter also mentions security flaws during the event. According to the allegation, lady police personnel stationed at the site participated in the festivities and enjoyed food and beverages. In contrast, a gazetted rank police officer "was observed touching the feet of a minister." The letter further stated that the CCTV cameras were not installed to watch VIP attendees, and "anyone could enter the venue in the guise of a VIP this way," according to the letter.

The commandos in charge of the Punjab Chief Minister's security were "busy viewing movies on their phones", and some even drank alcohol, stated the report.
