Police officer's wife, daughter beaten up by mob in J&K

Synopsis

The wife and daughter of a police officer were today beaten up by a mob protesting the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani in Awantipora area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district.

"A mob attacked the house of Sub-Inspector Mohammad Ashraf Pal at Chandrigam and beat up his wife and daughter. Both were injured in the attack," a police official said.

Pal, who is posted as duty officer at Sangam police post in Bibjehara area of Anantnag district, was not at home at the time of the attack.

The mob ransacked Pal's house, causing extensive damage to the building, the official said.

Several police personnel have been targeted by mobs in the violence that erupted in the aftermath of Wani's killing in an encounter with security forces on July 8.

Three police personnel are reported missing since Saturday when a mob attacked police station at Damhal Hanjipora in south Kashmir.

A police driver was killed on Sunday when a mob pushed his vehicle into river Jhelum.
