On Vijayadashami, RSS chief seeks new population policy, wants it to be applicable on all

Synopsis

Addressing RSS workers at the Nagpur headquarters on the occasion of Vijayadashmi, Bhagwat said that the rising population posed a predicament while reimagining the country’s development.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday sought a long-term policy to control the population.

Addressing RSS workers at the Nagpur headquarters on the occasion of Vijayadashmi, Bhagwat said that the rising population posed a predicament while reimagining the country’s development.

Bhagwat said it was imperative to come up with a population policy that is applicable to all groups.

Stating that population imbalance has become a problem, the RSS chief said the population policy should be made for the next 50 years and implemented equally.

Bhagwat said that vast differences in growth rates of different religious groups, infiltration and conversion are resulting in a religious imbalance of the population ratio, especially in border areas.

This, he said, may emerge as a threat to the unity, integrity and cultural identity of the country.

Citing the RSS Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal's resolution of 2015, Bhagwat said that there was a need to reformulate the National Population Policy keeping in view the availability of resources in the country and its future needs, and apply the same uniformly to all.

The same ABKM resolution had also pitched for preparing a National Register of Citizens to totally curb the illegal infiltration from across the border and preventing infiltrators from acquiring citizenship rights and purchasing lands.

Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Consulate General of Israel in Mumbai Kobbi Shoshani were among the others present at the event at the RSS headquarters.

Earlier in the morning, Bhagwat performed 'shastra puja' to mark the occasion of Vijayadashami.
