Synopsis

A late-night power cut at a Noida housing society spiraled into violence when two residents allegedly attacked a staff member, sparking police action and raising concerns about handling disputes lawfully.

Two residents of a Noida housing society were arrested after allegedly assaulting a maintenance employee during a dispute over generator backup power.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Supertech Cape Town Society in Sector 74. Around 3 am, a power outage left residents without electricity, and backup supply from the generator reportedly failed. Frustration among residents escalated into confrontation at the society’s maintenance office.

Police said resident Jyoti Mishra and her friend Amit went to the office to complain about the lack of backup power. An argument broke out with a maintenance employee identified as Kamal. The verbal exchange quickly turned physical, with Kamal allegedly slapped 23 times during the altercation.

Video Of Assault Circulates Online

Footage shared on social media shows Amit restraining Kamal while Jyoti repeatedly strikes him on the head and shoulder. Other men present attempted to intervene, but the confrontation continued until Jyoti and Amit left the spot.

The incident created tension within the society, prompting staff members to alert police. Officers from Sector 113 police station arrived and began an inquiry. Assistant Commissioner of Police Rakesh Pratap Singh confirmed that immediate cognisance was taken, and a case was registered against the accused.

Both Jyoti Mishra and Amit were arrested on Saturday and produced before a court. Police recorded statements from those involved and are examining available evidence, including the video.

Residents expressed concern over the violent episode, stressing that grievances should be resolved through proper channels rather than aggression. Police urged citizens to maintain peace and warned that assault and disorderly conduct would invite strict legal consequences.
