Synopsis

The barbaric nature of the crime has sent shockwaves across the state which began celebrations of the state's biggest festival Ganeshotsav on Friday.

A gruesome reminder of the Nirbhaya rape case was reported from Mumbai where a 30-year-old woman is battling for her life after she was brutalised.

The incident which was reported under the Sakinaka police station came to light at around 3:30 AM on Friday when the Police Control Room received a call that an injured woman needed assistance.

Upon reaching the incident spot at Khairani Road in the Sakinaka area, the police found the injured woman in an unconscious state in a tempo.

She was rushed to the nearby Rajawadi Hospital where the doctors treating her said that the victim had severe wounds in her private parts. 

The accused, identified as Mohan Chauhan, has been arrested. The arrest happened after the police examined the CCTV footage in the area.

However, the police believe that there may be more accused involved in the crime. 

The rapist allegedly inserted a rod in her private parts and damaged them. The accused has been booked under sections 307, 376, 323 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code. 

The victim meanwhile is undergoing treatment. But her condition is stated to be critical by the doctors.
