Nine-day festival of Navratri began today across the country with religious fervor amid Coronavirus precautions.

Devotees were seen visiting various temples to offer special prayers on the first day of Navratri, which celebrates the victory of Good over Evil.

The nine-day festival is dedicated to Goddess Durga and her nine Avatars, the Navadurga. The festival is associated with the prominent battle that took place between Durga and demon Mahishasura.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation on the occasion.

PM Modi said, "Pranams to Maa Shailputri on Day 1 of Navratri. With her blessings, may our planet be safe, healthy and prosperous. May her blessings give us strength to bring a positive change in the lives of the poor and downtrodden."
