Nabanna to depute special officer to Kolkata Municipal Corporation

The Supreme Court directed the Bengal government to inform within 10 days when voting is possible in various municipalities of the state. Despite the apex court order, the state government does not want to organize voting in various municipalities of the state before the 2021 assembly polls.

Voting in various municipalities of West Bengal has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the Supreme Court order, the state government does not want to organize voting in various municipalities of the state before the 2021 assembly polls. 

However, there is disagreement within the ruling party. In this case, the idea of appointing a 'Special Independent Officer' on behalf of the state before the apex court instead of the present administration is new. 

In fact, a three-judge division bench of the Supreme Court has directed the State Election Commission to inform the polling schedule within seven days. A large part of the ruling party is now in favor of a referendum in the city. But several MLAs, including Prashant Kishore, are against re-election before the 2021 assembly polls. 

Urban Development minister Firhad Hakim said that the Trinamool w win more than 100 seats out of 144 wards even if there is municipal voting now. It is very beneficial for the ruling party in the assembly elections.  

It may be mentioned that on December 16, the division bench of the apex court directed to announce the schedule of pre-voting. The opinion of the law department is being taken in this regard. 

Firhad Hakim said that we will inform about the COVID-19 situation and the ongoing voter list revision program to the State Election Commission and the Supreme Court.
