The victim, who suffered grievous injuries after the rapist inserted a rod in her private parts, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The 30-year-old woman who was brutalised in Mumbai's Sakinaka area is no more.

The victim, who suffered grievous injuries after the rapist inserted a rod in her private parts, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Sakinaka police had on Friday arrested the alleged rapist, Mohan Chouhan, based on CCTV footage from the area.

The victim was found in an unconscious state in a tempo in the wee hours of Friday just as the city began the Ganeshotsav celebrations. 

Balwant Deshmukh, a senior police inspector at the Sakinaka police station, had said that the alleged rapist had been booked under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 307(murder attempt). The charges are likely to be revised since the victim is no more.

The police also believe that there may be more accused involved in the crime.
