Two teenaged Mumbai college girls travelling in an auto rickshaw in Khar had the shock of their lives on Tuesday afternoon when a biker beside them openly masturbated on his motorcycle in broad daylight.
Far from being intimidated or ignoring, the BMM students decided to do the right thing - name and shame. They took pictures of the pervert and later a friend tweeted the picture to the Mumbai police.
According to Mid-Day, the police without waiting for a formal complaint took suo-moto action and caught the culprit within three hours.
The girls were in an auto, waiting for the signal to change at 16th Road, Khar West when the pervert – identified as 35-year-old Rais Likayat Qureshi, a resident of Bandra - flashed them.
A mutual friend of the girls, tweeted the picture with a message: “@MumbaiPolice friends were in a rickshaw & a man starting shagging looking at them what action can be taken on this?”
The cops responded with "@ZChashteh We have followed you. Please share the details on Direct Message. We will certainly look into this." And the kept their word.
The girls also had taken down the registration number of bike, which helped the police. The police formed two teams. One sought out RTO information on the bike, and another scanned through CCTV footage.
Within three hours, he was arrested and cooling his heels inside a city jail.
Last year, there was another pervert was arrested from Colaba after an American woman posted a photo of him on Twitter alleging that he jerked off while flashing her. The man, however, maintained that he was urinating, and the American had misunderstood him.
