After the 7th Pay Commission recommendations which awarded the government employees a salary hike, the parliamentarians, too, have their hopes held high for a 100 per cent hike in their basic salary.
The members of parliament (MPs) are awaiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sanction the change during the monsoon session which kickstarted on Monday.
If PM Modi approves the change, the salaries will jump from ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000 for the MPs. Additional to the basic salary, monthly travel expense will increase to ₹90,000 and the furniture allowance will be hiked to ₹1,50,000 per year.
Also, the MPs will be provided with broadband services worth ₹1700 per month at their residence. Pension for former law-makers will be hiked to ₹35,000 as against ₹20,000 per month.
In total, the parliamentarians will receive an annual compensation of ₹2,80,000.
If the prime minister sanctions the change, then salaries of the MPs would be revised in the current financial year.
