How the argument started

The viral clip begins with the girl’s brother recording the scene while questioning his sister about wearing earphones. He asks, “Kya kar rhi hai kaan me lead lgaake,” referring to the earphones in her ears.

A few moments later, the mother slaps the girl, leading to a loud argument in the room. The daughter appears upset and repeatedly says she was studying.

“Padh rahi thi mai,” she says several times while pointing towards her books.

According to the mother, she had returned home earlier and had been calling out to her daughter, but the girl could not hear because she was wearing earphones.

The mother says, “Tabhi toh mai keh rahi hu tujhe awaaz hi nahi aa rahi,” while trying to remove the earphones from her daughter’s ears.

Daughter says she was studying with headphones

Throughout the argument, the daughter keeps defending herself. At one point she says, “Arre padh rahi thi mai, ye dekh lo padh rahi thi,” (I was studying, see I was) while showing her books.

The brother then questions why she was using earphones while studying. Replying to him, the girl says, "Kaan me headphone lgaake hi toh padh rahi thi or kaise padhti? (I was studying with earphones, how else was I supposed to study?)"

As the argument becomes more heated, the frustrated daughter throws her book against the wall and says, “Arre padh rahi thi mai, dimaag khraab kar rhe ho bematlab ka. (You are driving me crazy for no reason, I was studying only)”

The confrontation later turns towards household work. The mother accuses her daughter of not cooking food while she was away from home.

In response, the daughter says, “Khud karo na apna kaam. (Do your work yourself.)”

The mother then questions her future married life and says, “Sasural me kya hoga tera? (What will happen to you in your marital home)”

The daughter's reply quickly caught attention online. She responds, “Jo tumhara hora hai vahi hoga mera. (the same that's happening with you)”

At another point in the clip, the mother also asks her son, who is recording the video, “Tu keh nahi sakta tha ki sabzi bana le?”

Social media users divided over the video

As the video spread online, users gave sharply divided reactions. Some people supported the mother and said children should respect parents and help with household work.

One user wrote, “A girl who can’t respect her own mother and family is such a red flag. Parents decisions may be wrong, but their intent is never wrong.”

Another person commented, “If I do same with my parents next minute they will through me out of home.”

Some users strongly criticised the family’s behaviour and said the daughter deserved privacy and respect.

One user wrote, “Parents have no right to barge in like this and misbehave she is an individual.”

Another said, “These types of people are the reason why many people is forced to marry strangers and kills the love.”

Some comments also criticised the brother for recording the incident instead of calming the situation. Others blamed all three family members for making the argument worse.

One user wrote, “See all of them are in the wrong, the mother by posing stereotypes on her, the girl for disrespecting her mother and the brother putting ghee in the fire.”
