MiG-29K fighter aircraft crashes in Goa; engine fire suspected to be the cause

Panaji: A MiG-29K fighter aircraft crashed in Goa soon after it took off for training. Both the pilots managed to eject safely.
Navy spokesperson Twitter handle posted: During a training mission, after take-off from INS HANSA at Dabolim a Mig 29k trainer aircraft suffered an engine fire. The pilots Capt M Sheokhand and Lt Cdr Deepak Yadav ejected safely.
More details on the mishap are awaited.
“It is a matter of great satisfaction that they managed to eject in time and both of them are safe. I pray for their good health and well-being,” said defence minister Rajnath Singh.

There is a provision to land both civilian and military aircraft in the Goa airport.
Recently in June another mishap involving MiG-29K was reported from Goa airport. The jet's external fuel tank was inadvertently jettisoned during take-off and caused a fire on the runway. This had led to suspension of the flight for nearly one-and-a-half hours.
