Mehbooba Mufti released from detention

Synopsis

Mehbooba Mufti was released after being detained for over a year. She was detained on the eve of the centre scrapping Article 370, under the stringent Public Safety Act.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and People's Democratic Party patron Mehbooba Mufti has been released from detention.

J&K administration's chief spokesperson Rohit Kansal confirmed the development.

Mufti was released after being detained for over a year. She was detained on the eve of the centre scrapping Article 370, under the stringent Public Safety Act.

Mufti's daughter took to Twitter to say, "As Ms Mufti’s illegal detention finally comes to an end, I would like to thank everybody who supported me in these tough times. I owe a debt of gratitude to you all. This is Iltija signing off. May Allah protect you."

Having spent over eight months in detention at two government facilities designated as sub-jails, Mehbooba was shifted to her home on April 7 in partial relief.

Initially, she was taken into preventive custody. Later on February 5 this year, she was slapped with the PSA.

The J&K administration in July had extended her detention by three months under the stringent Public Safety Act.
