Meghalaya Bypoll: PA Sangma’s son, Chief Minister’s wife in fray

Synopsis

Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma's wife Dikkanchi D Shira and late P A Sangma's son Conrad Sangma yesterday filed their nomination papers for the Tura Lok Sabha bypoll scheduled for May 16.

The bypoll was necessitated following the demise of former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma earlier this year.

Both filed their nominations at the office of the Returning Officer here accompanied by family members, friends and party workers.

Stating that P A Sangma had worked tirelessly for over 40 years, Conrad said he would carry on with the vision his father had on the demand for a separate Garoland state.

On the other hand, the Chief Minister's wife and Mahendraganj legislator said as P A Sangma's chapter is closed, the people of Garo Hills have to move in a new direction.
