Maharashtra Shocker: Teen Chasing Kite Suffers Critical Burns After Touching 11,000-Volt Line at Railway Station

A teenage boy suffered a critical electric shock at Kamptee railway station in Nagpur after coming into contact with an 11,000-volt overhead electric line. The incident occurred when he climbed a stationary goods train to retrieve a kite. 

A teenage boy suffered a severe electric shock after coming into contact with a high-voltage overhead electric line at Kamptee railway station in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon and has raised fresh concerns about safety around railway premises, especially for children and teenagers.

According to police and Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials, the overhead electric equipment was carrying 11,000 volts of current, making the incident extremely dangerous.

Chasing a kite led to the accident

The boy, identified as Lucky, was reportedly chasing a kite that had fallen onto a stationary goods train loaded with coal at the railway station. In an attempt to retrieve it, he climbed on top of the train, ignoring the serious risks involved.

An RPF jawan who was on duty noticed the teenager climbing the train and immediately tried to stop him. However, the boy did not listen and continued his attempt to pull the kite string.

Contact with live overhead electric line

Officials said the kite string had become tangled in the live overhead electric equipment. While trying to pull the string free, Lucky accidentally came into contact with the electric line.

"The overhead line was live and carrying 11,000 volts. As soon as he touched it, the boy received a powerful electric shock and collapsed on the coach," an official said.

The impact of the shock was severe, and the teenager fell unconscious on top of the train.

Swift rescue by railway staff

Railway staff and RPF personnel rushed to the spot immediately after the incident. The power supply to the overhead electric line was quickly switched off to prevent further harm.

The teenager was then carefully lowered to the ground with the help of railway staff. He was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur for emergency treatment.

Doctors at GMCH have said that the boy’s condition is critical. He is currently undergoing treatment, and further details about his recovery are awaited.

Railway officials have once again warned the public, especially children, to stay away from trains and overhead electric lines, stressing that such equipment carries deadly voltage and can cause fatal injuries within seconds.

Indore incident raises safety and medical negligence concerns

Another troubling kite-related incident has been reported from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, raising serious concerns about public safety. 

A 45-year-old man died after a kite string slit his throat while he was riding his bike. The deceased has been identified as Raghuveer Dhakar. According to the Station House Officer of Tilak Nagar Police Station, the incident took place on the stretch between Khajrana Chowk and Bengali Chowk. Police said they received information from the hospital that a bike rider had died due to his throat being cut by a kite string. Officials reached the hospital immediately and began inquiries.
