Abdur Rahman, who is currently posted in Mumbai, announced his resignation on Twitter and condemned the bill minutes before it was cleared by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Mumbai: Voices against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill seem to be growing with each passing hour. In the latest update, an IG-rank police official tendered his resignation in protest against the Citizenship Bill.
Abdur Rahman, an inspector general-rank police officer quit service on Wednesday in “civil disobedience” against CAB whose “whole idea” he said “is to divide the nation on religious and sectarian lines and create fear among Muslims.”
Condemning the bill, Rahman called it “totally decisive and unconstitutional and against the very basic feature of equality before the law.”
The officer tweeted his resignation letter and wrote, “The #CitizenshipAmendmentBill2019 is against the basic feature of the Constitution. I condemn this Bill. In civil disobedience I have decided not attend office from tomorrow. I am finally quitting the service.”

In another tweet, he said: "This Bill is against the religious pluralism of India. I request all justice loving people to oppose the bill in a democratic manner. It runs against the very basic feature of the Constitution."
Abdur Rahman, who is currently posted in Mumbai, condemned the Bill minutes before it was cleared by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The controversial legislation was passed by the upper house with a vote of 125.
Rahman has been speaking against the Bill since it was introduced in Lok Sabha on Monday. He even accused Union home minister Amit Shah of distorting history, and presenting "misleadingly information".
