Several thousands of Delhi residents will have to go without water for the next two days.
The Delhi Jal Board announced on Monday evening that water supply will be hit in major parts of the city, including NDMC areas, due to ongoing interconnection of pipes.
Areas where water shall not be available or available at low pressure include Civil Lines, Hindu Rao Hospital and adjoining areas, Kamla Nagar, Shakti Nagar and Karol Bagh. Pahar Ganj, New Delhi Municipal Corporation areas, old and new Rajinder Nagar, Patel Nagar (east and west), Inderpuri, parts of cantonment areas and south Delhi will also be among the affected zones.
The situation arose due to the complete shutdown of Chandrawal WW (water works) No 1 and II for interconnection of old water mains (main pipe in a water supply system) with pipe lines at DCM chowk, Rani Jhansi Road, DJB said.
The Delhi Jal Board on a daily basis supplies 50 gallons per capita per day of filtered water to a population of more than 160 lakh.
