Kumaraswamy slams 'corrupt' Karnataka govt, begins JDS-BJP padayatra

Kumaraswamy calls Karnataka govt 'worst and most corrupt'

Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday hit out at the Congress-led Karnataka government, calling it the "worst and most corrupt government" in the state's political and administrative history, while defending the country's economic growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking to ANI on the JDS-BJP Padayatra in Karnataka, Kumaraswamy said the 10-day march, which began on Tuesday, would be held in the northern parts of the state. "From today, they have started the Padayatra. They will be conducting the Padayatra for ten days in the northern part of Karnataka. In the history of Karnataka politics and administration, this is the worst and most corrupt government," he said.

He said the Padayatra was aimed at sending a message to the country and saving Karnataka. "The Padayatra has been started to send a message to the country and, more importantly, to save Karnataka. For that reason, the Padayatra started today," Kumaraswamy said.

Hails India's GDP growth under PM Modi

On India's GDP growth, the Union Minister hailed the 7.8 per cent growth recorded in the first quarter of financial year 2026-27, calling it a major achievement of the PM Modi government. "The Finance Ministry's achievement of crossing 7.8 per cent GDP growth under the leadership of the Prime Minister is a great achievement," he said.

Kumaraswamy said India was witnessing strong economic growth despite several challenges, including the ongoing war. "Even though we are facing several problems and this war is going on, we are facing all these challenges in a big way. Even in this challenging situation, we are crossing 7.8 per cent GDP growth in the first quarter of 2026-27," he said.

He further claimed that India's GDP growth could cross 10 per cent by the end of financial year 2027. "No, the Indian economy is not a dead economy. It is growing. It is going to reach record GDP growth this year," Kumaraswamy said, adding that the Congress would become a "zero party" in the future.

BJP's fight to continue until Congress govt is 'uprooted'

Earlier, BJP Karnataka president BY Vijayendra on Tuesday visited the Sri Amareshwara Temple in Lingasugur and offered prayers ahead of the party's padyatra, asserting that its fight against the ruling Congress government would continue until it is "uprooted".

Speaking to the media after offering prayers at the temple in Gurugunta, Vijayendra said the BJP's 10-day padyatra may conclude on September 10, but its political campaign against the Congress government would continue. "The fight against the corrupt, anti-people, anti-Dalit, and anti-development Congress government has begun. The padayatra may end on the 10th, but the fight against this government will continue," Vijayendra said.

He said the BJP would use the coming one and a half to two years to highlight what it termed failures of the Congress government and expressed confidence that a BJP-led NDA government would return to power in Karnataka. "We will uproot this government completely. Our fight will continue till then. In future, our BJP-led NDA government should come to power," he said. (ANI)
