Kolkata:  A Kolkata school has waived fees from the month of April till the school reopens. This comes at a time when parents are clueless about saving up money to pay school fees.

Waiving the monthly fee, St Joseph’s School in Howrah’s Salkia issued a circular mentioning that “session fees and all education expenses” had also been slashed by 50%.

The statement released by the school reads, “During the current situation of pandemic COVID-19, we, the school management of St Joseph’s School in Howrah, are with you to support in every way we can. We understand that these are hard times for everyone, due to which people are also suffering financially, so we, on Humanitarian grounds, have decided to help all our students in the following manner."

It added that school fees from April 2020 till the school reopens is waived off for all its students and session fee and other educational charges reduced to 50%.

Days ago, parents of the students of a reputed private school in south Kolkata on Saturday staged a demonstration in front of the institute demanding "rational and justified" fees in the current session of 2020-21 in the wake of the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The demonstration was held as the authorities of the GD Birla Centre for Education did not respond to repeated requests of the guardians to discuss some components of the fees, which are "not justified", and steps to be taken by the school towards the safety of the students when the institute reopens, the school's parents association said.
