Ernakulam: A Plus Two student in Koothattukulam had a terrifyingly close shave after a cobra slithered into her bedroom. The incident occurred at Prasad's homein Mangalath Thazham Panayakkunnel. His daughter, Sreenandana, was in her bedroom when she spotted the cobra crawling towards her. Thinking fast, she jumped onto her bed and managed to avoid getting bitten. The snake was later caught from the room.
This wasn't an isolated incident. Several other snake encounters were reported across the state today.
In Idukki, two people were bitten by snakes. A 14-year-old boy, Ajay, from Kunchithanny Ellakkal, and Paulson, a resident of Rajakumari, were the victims. Paulson was bitten early in the morning when he went to the washroom, while Ajay was bitten around 11 am. Officials believe a Krait (Vellikettan) bit both of them. Thankfully, doctors say both are out of danger and are being treated at the Adimali Taluk Hospital. In Kottayam's Pala, a 54-year-old woman named Anitha Babu from Ramapuram was also bitten by a snake last night. She has been admitted to a private hospital in Cherpunkal.
In Kozhikode's Karassery, a woman had a lucky escape. She found a snake coiled around the pulley she was using to draw water from a well. She spotted it just in time and moved away quickly.
Kannur also saw its share of snake sightings. A cobra was captured from a firewood shed at a house in Cherupuzha, Aravanchal. It took a snake rescuer hours to finally catch the reptile at Asinar's home. In another incident in Kannur city, a cobra turned up near the hand-washing area of the Ahmadiyya Mosque. Snake rescuer Ranjith was called in to safely capture it.
