Union Minister V Muraleedharan visited Dr Shahna's house who died by suicide due to dowry. He said that the incident was painful and this should never be repeated. Dowry has been banned for years and continues. He said that action should be taken to prevent dowry and strict punishment should be ensured for the accused.
12.15 PM: Kochi police initiate combing operation to take action against traffic accidents, drug use
Police have taken action against traffic accidents and drug use in Kochi. The police initiated a special combing operation. As many as 406 cases were registered yesterday including 221 cases of drunken driving, 93 cases of speeding and careless driving, 40 cases of sale and use of drugs, 32 cases of drinking in public and 20 cases of use and sale of prohibited tobacco products.

As many as 15 people were injured in a road accident at Idukki's Pooppara. The condition of two people is critical. The Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation bus was involved in the accident. The bus lost its brakes and hit an embankment. The injured were shifted to Theni Medical College.

Gold worth Rs 1 crore 53 lakh was seized in three separate cases in Karipur. The gold was hidden in the body in the form of capsules. Customs arrested Anwar Sadat from Tavanur, Shahir Shahifan from Kottakal and Muhammad Fazil from Meppadi in Wayanad.
10.15 AM: Kerala family commits suicide in Karnataka's Kodagu
Kollam resident Vinod Babusenan (43), his wife GB Abraham (37) and their daughter Jane Maria Jacob (11) were found dead. Police said financial problems were the reason for the suicide. The family was found dead by the resort staff yesterday afternoon. Vinod and GB were hanging and the child was lying dead on the bed. The police concluded that both of them hanged themselves after killing the child. The police have also recovered a suicide note signed by Vinod and GB stating that no one else is responsible for the death. The bodies were shifted to the government hospital in Kodagu.The police said that the relatives of Kollam have been informed and the dead bodies will be handed over to the relatives after the post-mortem.
9.45 AM: Two held for attempt to murder in Thiruvananthapuram
Two people are in custody in the case of trying to stab five people in Keezhattingal. The main accused are the accomplices of Pawan Prakash, who is accused in several criminal cases. The attack by a gang of three took place around 4 pm yesterday creating a panic situation in the region. The group attacked two people based on past enmity. Three other people who came to stop it were also stabbed. Siju, Pratheesh, Chiku, Rajesh and Binos, natives of Keezhattingal, are undergoing treatment at the medical college. Two of them are in critical condition. The fact that the phones of the accused are switched off is a setback for the investigation. The police hope to get information about the accused from those in custody.

8.35 AM: Missing Wayanad man found dead in suspected tiger attack; postmortem today
A 36-year-old man was found dead after he went missing for several hours in Vakeri, Wayanad on Saturday. The location of Prajeesh's body was 500 metres from the area of forest. According to early reports, the victim may have died from a tiger attack. The postmortem of the deceased will be conducted today at Sulthan Bathery Taluk Hospital.

Kerala will bid farewell to late CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran today. The funeral rites are scheduled at 11 am at Vazhoor, Kottayam. Kanam Rajendran passed away on Friday (Dec 5) following a cardiac arrest. He was 73 and breathed his last at a private hospital in Kochi while undergoing treatment. His health had kept him out of active politics for more than three months. According to earlier reports, Kanam requested a three-month break from the party's responsibilities. Kanam stated health concerns as the cause for his leave of absence in the application for leave that he filed with the party central committee.
