Karnataka: Fine for not wearing mask lowered to Rs 250 from Rs 1000

Synopsis

Karnataka government has brought down the fine for not wearing masks in public. The fine amount has been reduced to Rs 250 from Rs 1000 in urban areas and Rs 100 from Rs 500 in rural areas in the state.

Bengaluru: After residents got furious over the huge fine amount for not wearing masks in the state, the Karnataka government has decided to lower the fine amount.

Earlier those who do not wear masks were penalised Rs 1000 in urban areas and Rs 500 in rural areas.

However, on Wednesday afternoon, the state government declared that it would lower the fine for offenders in urban areas to Rs 250 and Rs 100 in rural areas.

The sudden decision to lower the fine amount has been made after many residents in Bengaluru complained that they could not afford to pay the fine amount as they have not been earning enough due to the pandemic.

Few residents who were asked to pay the fine questioned the officials why politicians like DK Shivakumar, CT Ravi and others who appear in the public were not fined by the government.

The government’s decision to lower the fine amount has brought a sigh of relief for many citizens who are finding it hard to meet daily needs.
