Karnataka: CM Yediyurappa kickstarts project work on Bengaluru Lifesciences Park

Synopsis

Spread over 52 acres, the Lifesciences Park will elevate Bengaluru on the Biotech map of the world.

Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday (July 29) laid the foundation stone and performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Bengaluru Lifesciences Park at Electronics City.

Equipped with biotechnology infrastructure, the park is planned to span across an area of nine-million square feet.

"The Bengaluru Life Sciences Park will come up on a sprawling 52.27 acres at a cost of Rs. 5,000 crore. The project is being set up under a public-private partnership with the government of Karnataka and private entity Labzone Corp. The first phase of the project will be completed by December 2022," deputy CM Ashwath Narayan said.

The Park, he said, would have a facility to house about 150 firms and will add about 50,000 jobs. It will also have a dedicated incubation space with shared instrumentation lab facilities and customizable fully fitted lab and office suites.

The project, Ashwath Narayan said, was envisioned 20 years ago when the Karnataka Vision group on Biotechnology was set up.
