Randeep Singh Surjewala slammed the Bommai government by highlighting the incident in which dozens of Dalit workers were allegedly assaulted and held captive at a Chikkamagaluru estate.

The Congress on Wednesday said that Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and his predecessor BS Yediyurappa having breakfast at a dalit's house was a 'photo-op' for votes ahead of the state's assembly elections next year.

The stench of Dalit atrocities under the Bommai government in Karnataka is nauseating, with a 54 per cent increase over the previous year. "While Bommai-BSY (Yediyurappa) pose for a photo in front of a Dalit house, BJP leader detains 16 Dalits, and a helpless woman loses her child," tweeted Surjewala.

Mr. Bommai, large majority of Dalits and poor demand answers-:

4. Why have Dalit atrocities gone up by 54% over last year? Is it by a design to target SC/ST’s?

5. Is diversion of SCP/TSP Funds of ₹6,500 CR by ur Govt a design to weaken their empowerment?

While Opposition Leader Siddaramaiah criticised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party for not doing enough for Dalits and other backward communities, AICC General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka, Randeep Singh Surjewala, took a swipe at the Bommai government by highlighting an incident in which over a dozen Dalit workers were allegedly assaulted and held captive at an estate in Chikkamagaluru.

While talking to the media, Siddaramaiah, who is in Chitradurga for Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, responded, "As elections approach, they have begun to remember Dalits, backward classes, SCs, and STs, for whom this government has done nothing. They are now visiting areas where Dalits and other backward communities live for the sake of elections and votes."

Bommai, Yediyurappa, and other BJP leaders had breakfast at a Dalit's house in Ambedkar Nagar of Kamalapura village in Vijayanagara district earlier on Wednesday as part of the party's 'Jana Sankalpa Yatra.'
