Karnataka CM thanks Kerala counterpart for initiating action against bio-medical, bio-wastes dumping

Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa released a statement thanking Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and stated that he would like to thank the latter for his prompt reaction and response to initiate legal action against the dumpers of bio-medical and bio-waste in districts neighbouring Kerala

Bengaluru: Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa thanked his Kerala counterpart Pinarayi Vijayan for initiating action against those dumping bio-medical and bio-wastes in Karnataka's districts that are close to neighbouring state Kerala.

In a statement, he said, "First I would like to thank Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan for his prompt reaction and response to initiate legal action against the dumpers of bio-medical and bio-waste in our districts neighbouring Kerala." 

The Karnataka chief minister has taken a serious note of the reports in a section of media on alleged dumping of bio-medical waste and bio-waste by people from Kerala in bordering Mysuru, Kodagu and Chamarajnagar districts.

"I have directed deputy commissioners of concerned districts, environment department, and pollution control board to take stock of the situation and check surreptitious activities of individuals and agencies from Kerala who are indulging in this illegal activity. I have also directed the officials to prevent the use of this bio-medical waste by jaggery units as fuel," Yediyurappa said.

He assured that soon this activity will be checked and ended.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Tuesday held a Party Legislative Meeting at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.

The details of the meeting are awaited. Siddaramaiah had also chaired a meeting of senior Congress leaders including HK Patil, Ramalinga Reddy, DK Shivakumar, G Parameshwara, KR Ramesh Kumar and others on Sunday, a day before the commencement of the Assembly session.

On Monday, Governor Vajubhai Vala addressed the joint sitting of both the Houses of State Legislature - the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council on the start of the Assembly session.

The session will conclude on February 20.
