
Lucknow: Eight Uttar Pradesh police personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police, were killed during an exchange of fire in an encounter with history-sheeter Vikas Dubey and his gang in Kanpur on Friday.
The encounter took place in Dikru village in Chaubeypur Police Station limits in Kanpur district when a police team raided a location to arrest Vikas Dubey and his gang.
The history-sheeter Vikas Dubey faces more than 60 criminal cases in different police stations in Kanpur.
According to police, two criminals, purportedly belonging to Vikas Dubey’s gang were shot dead on the spot by police in an encounter hours after the incident on Friday night. Police said Vikas Dubey and his gang had blocked roads using a JCB to prevent police personnel from entering the house where he was hiding.
Although, UP cops were able to reach the hideout of the dreaded criminal and were headed towards it when the gang rained bullets on cops from a building rooftop. During the exchange of fire, deputy superintendent of police Devendra Mishra, three sub-inspectors and four constables were killed in the encounter.
