Israel Embassy Blast: NIA takes over, re-registers case

Earlier, the case was probed by the Special Cell of Delhi Police under the Indian Penal Code and Section 3 of Explosive Substances Act, 1908.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday took over and re-registered the case in connection to the blast that happened outside the Isreal Embassy in Delhi on January 29, 2020. On that day, a low-intensity blast occurred near the embassy on Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road around 5 pm. In June, the investigative agency sought information to help identify two suspected people seen in the CCTV footage connected with the case. 

The agency also announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for any information on the suspects and release email IDs and phone numbers of the suspects with the photos and videos captured from outside the embassy. Placing reward for the arrest of each of the suspects, the NIA, in an official statement, said it seeks help to identify, arrest the two individuals seen to be roaming near the spot on the day of the attack.

Earlier, the case was probed by the Special Cell of Delhi Police under the Indian Penal Code and Section 3 of Explosive Substances Act, 1908. On February 2, the Ministry of Home Affairs handed over the case to the NIA. 

The blast had shattered windscreens of parked screens and the incident coincided with the 29th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Several IED components were found scattered around the explosion spot. Post the blast; Prime Minister Modi assured then Israel PM Netanyahu of bringing the culprits to justice. The statement released by the PMO stated that the leaders expressed satisfaction about the close coordination between Indian and Israeli security agencies.
