Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed that Indore, the country's cleanest city, has now been declared the first 'water plus' city of India under the Swachh Survekshan 2021.

For the unaware, Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across India launched as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Speaking to the media, Indore civic commissioner Pratibha Pal informed that seven sewerage treatment plants were constructed, and about 110 million litres per day (MLD) treated water from them is being used.
According to the criteria, she further said dirty water should not go into any river or drain, and at least 30 per cent of the city's sewer water has to be recycled and reused. Public toilets must be connected to sewer lines and must be cleaned.
