India’s first sandalwood museum to be set in Mysuru Palace

The country’s very first, sandalwood museum is likely to come up later this month in Mysuru in Karnataka. The museum is likely to be inaugurated after November 25 and will be shifted to the famous Mysuru Palace.

Mysuru: The country’s very first sandalwood museum is likely to come up later this month in Mysuru in Karnataka.

Mysuru is already famous for its sandalwood soaps, sandalwood oil, incense sticks, etc, and now, Karnataka Chief Minister Yediyurappa has promised the inauguration of the first sandalwood museum in the country.

According to reports, the museum has been conceptualised in a way that it will help in spreading awareness about the history and the cultivation of sandalwood products.

Additionally, it will also give visitors the chance to witness the beauty and variety of the many pieces on display.

Earlier, DCF Dr Prashanth Kumar said the museum will display sandalwood classification, types of sandalwood, billets and dust of sandalwood, posters containing information pertaining to sandalwood growing and prevention of diseases.

Prashanth Kumar added that a 3D model of sandalwood sculpture would also be displayed at this museum.

A separate room and an auditorium with a projector and seating arrangements is constructed for visitors, who could learn more about sandalwood cultivation

The visitors could also have first-hand information about sandalwood through interviews of successful sandalwood growers which would be screened. Audio information pertaining to sandalwood would also be provided to the visitors

The museum is likely to be inaugurated after November 25, and will be shifted to the famous Mysuru Palace, which is already quite popular among tourists, both local and those coming from outside the state.
